Reading their textbooks is not a bad idea!

I heard this on the news just awhile ago and I think it’s a great idea. So, in middle school and high school, your teens have probably gotten a handful of textbooks that they’ll be reading over the school year. However, do you actually know what they’re learning about?

My dad used to pick up my textbooks and start reading them, just because he wanted to see what I knew and to maybe expand my knowledge of what he knows. The problem with textbooks is that the people writing them have to summarize everything, so things often get missed or a bit twisted.

A lot of you probably heard about the numerous times evolution has been brought up as a big issue in the way we’re taught about it. I myself believe that the Darwin theory is true, and that we became who we are because of mutations and other genetic changes. I also like the theory of natural selection because it makes sense. I don’t think string theory makes sense though.

Anyway, what I’m pretty much saying is that the textbooks that are used in schools these days are always having to be updated because of arguments, changes in evidence, and theories being not accurate or made a fact. It is important to know what’s being said in the editions that your teen is using in order to help them understand what’s being said and what the teachers want them to get from the readings. This is especially important in the science books.
